Safran, the French aeronautics and defence group partly owned by the French State, was fined €500,000 on 5 September by a Paris Court for bribing public official in Nigeria.

According to the Paris Court, bribes were paid by Safran in 2000-2003 to win a €170 million contract to make identity cards. Safran is appealing the decision and denies the charges. The Paris Court acquitted two of the company's executive.
